Jonathan Friedman: 347-687-9390,

Join NYC Intactivists for our first protest at the UN to raise awareness of circumcision as a human rights violation.

Circumcision is a harmful ritual practice that has been medicalized in the United States. It entered the medical practice during the Victorian era, a time when Christian fundamentalist doctors believed that circumcision caused hairy palms, blindness, paralysis, and all sorts of diseases. Originally performed without anasthetic on boys who were caught masturbating, the Americans adopted the Jewish practice of circumcising newborns.

The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that 1 in 500 circumcisions go significantly wrong. Researchers estimate that upwards of 200 babies die in the United States every year from complications due to circumcision. The ones that survive are left with severely diminished sensitivity and function.

Medical associations and lawmakers in Europe are becoming increasingly informed of the harms caused by circumcision, and are actively trying to stop the practice.

Join us at the United Nations to end circumcision and all forms of gender-conforming surgeries on intersex, female and male children.
