Islamophobia is dominating political discourse! The mainstream media is giving legitimacy to the "debate" over whether an Islamic Cultural Center can be developed in an empty building two blocks from "hallowed ground."

This so-called debate is not just about religious freedom and the First Amendment, although it is that too. It is about linking up immigration issues, including Arizona "laws," and stirring up yet more attacks on Muslim citizens with continuing occupations in the Middle East and propagating bigotry in the name of patriotism. As the World Can't Wait message says, "Grief is no excuse for bigotry and war!"

Now is the time for creative people to ridicule the ideas behind this Wizard of Oz screen of absurdity. World Can't Wait invites everyone to an action designed to make people think about how ridiculous this debate is. We'll provide poster board and markers!

Meet up at 45 Park Place at NOON on Thursday September 2!

* Make signs : How can you have a shopping mall on hallowed ground? How can you eat pizza on hallowed ground? How can you have a public restroom only TWO BLOCKS from Ground Zero? ETC!
* Make music: Bring instruments, your songs, whatever!
* How about street theater? Any ideas out there?

UPCOMING ACTION on 9/11: Stop Islamophobia in the US will hold a somber action on the afternoon of Saturday 9/11/10 to counter the planned protest against Islam. We will have more information as it develops.
