WOMEN IN CUBA / WOMEN IN REVOLUTION - Book Reading Discussion
The Militant Labor Forum
presents two books
WOMEN IN CUBA: THE MAKING OF A REVOLUTION WITHIN THE REVOLUTION
WOMEN AND REVOLUTION: THE LIVING EXAMPLE OF THE CUBAN REVOLUTION
describe how workers and farmers in Cuba, under the leadership of the July 26th movement, rose up by the millions to overthrow the US-backed dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista, took political power and wielded it in their own interests. The books describe the “revolution within the revolution†— the involvement and transformation of women in the revoluttionary process and how they helped to lead.
TODAY, IN THE US AND OTHER CAPITALIST COUNTRIES, workers face a deepening assault against our jobs, wages, working conditions; and against our social conditions and rights. Workers resist, such as the NYC school bus workers recently on strike defending their jobs and their union. Many others are discussing — how do we defend ourselves? Within this context the example of the Cuban revolution is attracting new attention and interest.
Leader of the Federation of Cuban Women
