Japan Dolphins Day 2013 - Screening of The Cove -In Solidarity with Ric O'Barry
Please join us at Bluestockings (www.bluestockings.com) for a screening of the Oscar-winning documentary The Cove. This screening coincides with the start of the annual dolphin cull in Taiji, Japan. Each year from September 1 through the end of March, thousands of dolphins are driven to the shores of Taiji. The majority are brutally killed and the remaining dolphins are sold into a life of captivity.

This screening is part of Japan Dolphins Day (www.japandolphinsday.net), an annual worldwide event headed by renowned activist Ric O’Barry. O’Barry is active in creating worldwide pressure against the Japanese dolphin slaughter, including generating petitions with more than 2 million signatures from 151 countries. He is involved in investigations and monitoring in Taiji and in exposing toxic mercury in Japanese dolphin meat products.
At the conclusion of the film we will have speeches by local animal rights activists which will touch upon and expand on the topic of dolphin captivity.

This event aims to increase public awareness about the slaughter of thousands of dolphins, promote dolphin advocacy and call for a boycott of any aquarium or institution which profits on the capture and exploitation of cetacean wildlife.
