Day of the Dead Soundpainting Salon

"The Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble merges music, theater, improvisation and structured composition into a total multi-media experience--a "happening" in which art leaps off the wall and into the seat next to us." --Asbury Park Press

Soundpainting Salon is Strike Anywhere's monthly improvised performance series in residence at the Brecht Forum. The November show opens SA's 2013-2014 season. The evening features SA's interdisciplinary ensemble of world-class musicians, dancers, and actors spontaneously spinning performance pieces using the Soundpainting sign language. Part performance, part fiesta, the ensemble steps into the unknown, creating art in the moment, allowing intuition, the sounds of the room and audience suggestion to guide what they play. The ensemble is known for their use of Soundpainting, the sign language for conducted improvisation which allows a conductor/composser to sculpt an improvisation while it is in motion. The November show will eature the full ensemble in a series of Soundpaintings and there will be featured guests, cash bar, tapas and giveaways. Costumes and masks encouraged.

The Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble is an interdisciplinary ensemble theater that has been generating original performane piees since 1997. The permanent ensemble is comprised of some of NYC's finest jazz musicians, and top improvisers from the downtown heater and dance scene. SA performances always feature live musice, physical theater and modern dance. Te coompany applies structures and concepts from American jazz to their inter-disciplinary improvisatins to create performances that are startlingly alive. The company is in residence at the Brecht Forum. Strike Anywhere has toured nationally and internationally. The company has appeared at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the American Airlines Theatre, the Irondale Center, The Zipper Factory, PS122 and HERE Arts Center.
