Ending the Unending War in Afghanistan, with Rory Fanning and Anand Gopal

Ex-Army Ranger Rory Fanning and National Book Award finalist Anand Gopal will examine the ongoing US Occupation of Afghanistan and imperialism throughout the middle east. A conscientious objector, Fanning will discuss the emotional and social consequences of rejecting the mission of one of the elite fighting forces in the world. Days before Fanning left, his comrade Pat Tillman's death by friendly fire was covered up. Fanning honored Tillman's legacy by crossing the United States on foot.

Rory Fanning walked across the United States for the Pat Tillman Foundation in 2008–2009, following two deployments to Afghanistan with the 2nd Army Ranger Battalion. He is a housing activist living in Chicago, Illinois. Rory works for Haymarket Books and this is his first book.

Anand Gopal has served as an Afghanistan correspondent for The Wall Street Journal and The Christian Science Monitor, and has reported on the Middle East and South Asia for Harper’s, The Nation, The New Republic,Foreign Policy, and other publications.
