June 19, 2pm Coney Island Mermaid Parade
Join the Mermaid Survivors of the BP Oilspill Contingent! Calling all radical merpeople (merdogs & seahorses welcome) of New York!

Merpeople/sea creature costume required...and since the theme is linked to the oil spill we do ask that you either supply your own washable fake oil (or get creative) or let us dump some on you! We must continue to hold BP accountable for their utter disdain for the safety of their own workers, the health of our shores and the lives of animals, seacreatures and plants of the gulf.

Where: According to the parade site, registration and line-up for marchers and push pull floats is now at West 21st Street Between Surf Avenue and the Boardwalk. We will update this page with more info as we have it!
If you want to join us please either RSVP through our Facebook event or send a message to mermaid@codepink.org so we know how many merpeople, sea creatures, etc to expect!

June 8, 2010

Colonel Ann Wright is back in NYC and ready to share her experiences aboard the Free Gaza Flotilla. We are also teaming up with some radical mermaids from around NYC on the Boycott BP Day of Action, June 19th, for some Mermaid Parade/Coney Island creativity. Join us!

Free Gaza Flotilla Survivors Will Tell Their Story Wednesday, June 9, at All Souls Unitarian Church

Where: All Souls Unitarian Church, 1157 Lexington Avenue between 79th and 80th Sts.
When: 7 pm Wednesday, June 9

Ann Wright, retired US Army Colonel and former U.S. diplomat, and outspoken anti-war activist will talk about her experiences with the Free Gaza flotilla which was violently attacked by the Israeli Navy on May 31. Ann was a passenger on the ship Challenger which was boarded and hijacked by the Israeli Navy. She and the other passengers were forced to spend several days in Israeli jails before global diplomatic pressure resulted in their being released to Turkey. Ann is thoroughly familiar with the situation in Gaza as well, having made three visits to the Gaza Strip in 2009 after the Israeli invasion.
