Join us after the screening in the back room of Desmond's Tavern, around the corner. 433 Park Avenue South, NY, NY 10016 - at 30th St. We’ll start with remarks by Chris Williams, followed by discussion facilitated by Pete Rugh, OWS Environmental Solidarity. Chris is a professor at Pace U. and is the author of Ecology and Socialism.

The Crisis of Civilization is a dark comedy documentary film that connects the dots between global crises. Ecological disaster and climate catastrophe, financial meltdown, peak oil and dwindling oil reserves, terrorism and food shortages – all are converging symptoms of a single, failed global system. Without understanding how they are linked, we tend to deal with symptoms instead of the root causes. What ideas got us into this mess, and which ones can get us out?

Weaving together archival film clips and animations, film maker Dean Puckett and international security analyst Dr. Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed – author of A User’s Guide to the Crisis of Civilization: And How to Save It – prove that ‘another world’ is not merely possible, but on its way.

The real solution, Nafeez says, is to recognize that fundamental change for our civilization is inevitable, and to work toward systemic transformation based on more participatory forms of living. The film can also be seen online at http://crisisofcivilization.com/.

“A really fantastic overview of the global situation. I don’t think I’ve seen a more comprehensive ‘welcome to the 21st century’.” – Richard Heinberg, Post Carbon Institute
