Currently in NJ there are 1500 immigrants being held for suspected immigration violations at the Elizabeth Detention Center and in 5 county jails across the state - a significant increase from the 1000 or so who were being detained 2 years ago.

This is indicative of the entire US immigration detention system which is in deep crisis. In recent years it has expanded dramatically and at great cost to principles of universal human ri...ghts and the rule of law.
