Deep Green Resistance 101

Date:
Monday, March 3, 2014 - 8:30pm - 10:00pm
Location:
Cosi: 841 Broadway (13th and Broadway), NY, NY

What is Deep Green Resistance?

Deep Green Resistance is an analysis, a strategy, and a movement being born, the only movement of its kind.

As an analysis, it reveals the last 10,000 years of human history–the rise and dominance of civilization–as the culture of death that is now threatening every living being on Earth.

As a strategy, it critiques ineffective lifestyle actions and explains their inevitable failure to stop the destruction of people, species, and the planet. In contrast, DGR offers a concrete plan for how to stop that destruction.

DGR NY Monthly Prisoner Support

Date:
Thursday, February 27, 2014 - 8:00pm - 9:30pm
Location:
39 Eldridge St Suite 4 NY, NY (Chinatown)

Our goal of a resistance movement does not come without those who have started a path for us. There are many who have fought and struggled against the systems of power we wish to dismantle, but not without consequences. Join us as we work to build a culture of resistance by working to support our comrades, those fighting for environmental and social justice, who have been imprisoned because of their work.

Help us to brighten their day, keep alliances alive and the channels of information open.

From the poisoned rivers, barren wells, and clear-cut forests, to the hundreds of thousands of farmers who have committed suicide to escape punishing debt, to the hundreds of millions of people who live on less than two dollars a day, there are ghosts nearly everywhere you look in India. India is a nation of 1.2 billion, but the country’s 100 richest people own assets equivalent to one-fourth of India’s gross domestic product. Capitalism: A Ghost Story examines the dark side of democracy in contemporary India, and shows how the demands of globalized capitalism has subjugated billions of people to the highest and most intense forms of racism and exploitation.

Millions mourned the recent death of South African leader Nelson Mandela, who was instrumental in bringing about an end to Apartheid in that country. In the midst of well-deserved accolades, however, little was said, much less debated, about Mandela's support for Palestine, economic justice, and political prisoners. This panel addresses these largely ignored aspects of the Mandela legacy, with three critical perspectives each shedding crucial light on what Mandela, his errors as much as his accomplishments, have to teach us for future struggle.
