DEAD RAIN FORESTS OF NEW YORK
Saturday, July 17th, 10 a.m.
High Line- Gansevoort Street and 10th Avenue

We'll ride the cool morning air along lower Manhattan's waterfront, stopping where tropical timber has been installed.

Ancient forests over 50 million years old are being logged for our boardwalks, park benches, bridge decking, ferry pilings, and other outdoor uses; they can easily be built with more sustainable materials. This ride will go at an easy pace, lasting about an hour to 90 minutes with some stops along the way.

Critical Mass is a monthly celebration of bicycles and other nonpolluting means of transportation, exercising our right to the road. Critical Mass is a movement, not an organization; no two riders participate for exactly the same reason. New York City's first Critical Mass was in 1993.

Reading: Ineke Van de Vijver “Silent Storm”
One pleasant summer day, a couple of friends joined a Critical Mass bike ride. The result was a harrowing fugitive chase (on bikes!) across America as they fled from charges of a crime they did not commit. Join Ineke Van de Vijver for a reading and discussion of “Silent Storm: Bicycling for Freedom,” an action packed true story (touched with fiction) about America and justice.

DRAG RIDE
Friday, June 25th, 10 p.m.
Sheridan Square at 7th Avenue and Christopher Street

Why: Because 41 years ago we learned that nothing says resistance like a street full of queens in six-inch heels. Tonight we'll have hundreds of them. Plus a sound bike! This is a festive celebration of bikes, colors, streets, and New York's unique culture of resistance. Drag is what you make it.
